PLANNED GIFT OPTIONS
Making a planned gift to the Humane Society of Chittenden County is a meaningful way to carry forward your compassion and concern for animals, and a wonderful way to say thank you to every animal that has touched your life. It is one of the most effective ways to ensure that HSCC can continue to save lives and make Chittenden and Grand Isle counties of Vermont more humane communities for animals.
We recommend that you work with your financial and legal advisors to prepare your estate plan and review it from time to time. Please include the full legal name of the Humane Society of Chittenden County and our EIN (03-0193150) in your documents.
Bequest
You may designate a specific amount of money, stocks, bonds, tangible property or other assets to HSCC.
In your will you may also:
- Designate a percentage of the total value of your estate.
- Designate a residual bequest which directs HSCC to receive the remainder of the estate, or a portion of the remainder, after all expenses and other bequests have been made.
Retirement Assets
Any or all the balance in IRA's, 401(k)s, and other retirement savings plans can be donated to HSCC. Please consider making HSCC a full or partial beneficiary.
While these are not future gifts and benefit HSCC immediately, we always welcome donations of Qualified Charitable Deductions (QCD) and Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA and 401(b).
TANGIBLE ASSETS
There are many tangible assets and real property you might choose to gift to HSCC. Please discuss this with us when you are planning, so we can be sure your gift is one we can accept.
Name HSCC as a Beneficiary
HSCC can be named as a whole or partial beneficiary for the following:
- Trust
- Certificates of Deposit (CDs)
- Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs)
- Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)
- Life Insurance
- Retirement Accounts
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS (CRT), CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITIES (CGA) or CHARITABLE LEAD TRUST (CLT)
A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) or Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) enables you to receive lifetime income from an investment while receiving a tax deduction for the value of the investment. HSCC may work with a third party nonprofit to establish the CGA. A CLT will provide income to HSCC for a certain period of time, and then pass the remaining assets to other beneficiaries.
We welcome a conversation with you and are available to work with your estate planning and financial advisor. You may complete the Planned Gift Letter of Intent below or contact our Director of Development, Emily Hecker, at (802) 862-0135 x15 or email emilyh@hsccvt.org.
